Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a gel containing a large amount of water, insoluble in water, etc., having high elasticity and excellent mechanical strength, etc., and suitable for a slow-releasing perfumery gel, etc., by suspending a 3-layer composite clay mineral in a polyvinyl alcohol solution, and drying the suspension at low temperature to a definite water-content.
CONSTITUTION: A 1W15wt% aqueous solution of a polyvinyl alcohol having a saponification degree of ≥95mol% and a viscosity-average polymerization degree of ≥1,500 is mixed with a suspension containing 0.7W15wt% clay mineral having lamellar structure composed of a 3-layer-type (2:1 type) composite structure as a principal unit (pref. montmorillonite, etc. having particle size of ≥0.15mm), and the aqueous suspension thus obtained is dried at -6W+40°C to a water-content of 20W92wt% (wet basis). The weight ratio of the polyvinyl alcohol to the clay mineral is 1/5W8/1. When the gel prepared by this process is immersed in water, its water content reaches 20W95wt% in 6W12hr, and the hydrated gel keeps the shape even by shaking at room temp. W40°C. Acids, alkalis, etc. necessary in the conventional gelation process, are not necessary in the gelation, pretreatment, or after the secondary hardening.
