Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer having a high bulk density and good powdery fluidity with a slight amount of fine powder, by discharging a polymer from a mixing type polymerizer, reacting a high-speed gas stream on the polymer, accompanying the fine powdery polymeric component with the gas stream, and circulating the stream through the polymerizer.
CONSTITUTION: In carrying out the continuous vapor-phase polymerization of an olefin in a mixing type polymerizer, a polymer is discharged from the polymerizer, and a high-speed gas stream is made to act on the polymer to accompany the fine powdery component in the polymer with the gas stream and circulate the polymeric component through the polymerizer. In the process, the fine powdery component is made to accompany the gas stream in a minimal amount preferentially at a good classifying efficiency. For example, the polymer is taken out to a vertical container having a diameter (1/14)W(1/5) that of the polymerizer, and the gas is blown from the bottom at a velocity of 40W1,000cm/ sec. The gas stream containing the fine powdery component is circulated through the polymerizer from the top. Preferably, 0.1W50wt% polymer discharged from the polymerizer is circulated therethrough.
