Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve thermal stability and secular stability for orientation and to avoid yellow change of oriented film during the use for a long time, by bringing a liquid crystal into contact with a polyimide coated film provided on an electrode plate. CONSTITUTION:A liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy is brought into contact with a film with orientation processing of polyimide (e.g., polyimide in formulas VI, VII) of formulaI(where: X is -S-, formulas II, III, IV, V, -NR- (R is H, alkyl, allyl) radical, and n is a positive integer) provided on an electrode. The thermal stability and secular stability of orientation are improved and yellow change of oriented film generated during the use for a long period can be improved and the reduction in contrast can be avoided.
