Abstract
PURPOSE:To aim at reducing energy for a propulsion unit by retrieving and utilizing thermal energy of exhaust gas produced from a main engine for driving an auxiliary power unit so that power produced by the auxiliary power unit is added to the output of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A propeller propulsion unit is coupled to a main engine 1 which is attached with an auxiliary power unit 3 that may adds its output power to the main engine only during the time when a ship runs at the specified output power of the main engine 1. The auxiliary power unit 3 is driven by electrical power generated by a turbo-generator 5 which is in turn driven through an exhaust gas economizer 4 retrieving waste heat from the main engine 1. Reference numeral 6 denotes a backup diesel engine generator.
