EXAMPLE: 7-Amino-3-iodomethyl-Δ3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid.
USE: A compound useful as an intermediate for cephalosporin type compound, and its salt.
PROCESS: A 7-aminocephalosporanic acid shown by the formula II or its salt is reacted with a hydrohalogenic acid or its salt in the presence of sulfuric acid, an alkylsulfonic acid, arylsulfonic acid, halosulfonic acid, or haloalkylsulfonic acid in the absence of a solvent or in an organic solvent (e.g., acetone, acetonitrile, sulfolane, etc.), to give a compound shown by the formulaI.
