Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain panel glass for a color cathode-ray tube, which has selective optical characteristics of the permeability and absorptivity and provides color pictures with high contrast and a high luminance, by using glass which transmits red, green and blue light emitted from phosphors sufficiently and absorbs light of the other wavelengths than those of red, green and blue light as far as possible. CONSTITUTION:Nd2O3, when added to base glass, gives the base glass a high permeability to light corresponding to the emission colors of a red, a green and a blue phosphor, and gives the base glass a sharp absorptivity to yellow light with a wavelength of around 580mmu. Owing to the characteristics of the selective permeability and absorptivity given by Nd2O3, pictures with high contrast and a high luminance can be obtained. For the purpose mentioned above, Nd2O3 content should be in the range of 0.1- 6.0% of the glass. In the figure, (a) represents a curve of the permeability of glass containing 1% Nd2O3; (b), that of glass containing 1% Nd2O3 and 0.3% Pr6O11 (c), that of glass containing 1% Nd2O3, 0.3% Pr6O11 and 0.002% Cr2O3; No.1, that of the base glass itself (thickness of the glass is 10mm.). As is seen in the figure, according to the curve of the permeability of the glass, the glass has a high absorptivity at a wavelength of about 570-600mmu, Which corresponds to yellow light between red light and green light.
