Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a steel material having uniform internal quality by subjecting a continuously cast ingot to heating, hot working and reheating treatments under specific temp. conditions and reduction of area, thereby dispersing and decreasing the segregation of the alloy elements and impurity elements present in the ingot.
CONSTITUTION: A continuously cast ingot is subjected to primary hot working at temps. above the A3 transformation point and below 1,200°C, and ≥20% reduction of sectional area. Thence, continuously from this or from the end temp. of the primary hot working, it is reheated within the ranges of 120W below 180min at 1,000°C, 30W180min at 1,165°C, 15W60min at 1,250°C, and below 30min at 1,300°C. This method is intended to annihilate or disperse and decrease the segregation of the alloy elements and impurity elements present in the ingot by treating the ingot through strain induced diffusion to be executed in a short time at low temps. If at least 0.0005W0.0008wt% Ca is beforehand added to this steel, the effect is further promoted.
