Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce a catalyst of a low cost and having superior activity and heat resistance for purification of waste gases by impregnating a wash-coated catalyst carrier with liquid contg. soluble salts of Pd and Ce and a hydroxycarboxylic acid then heat-treating the same. CONSTITUTION:Pd and Ce are deposited simultaneously on a wash-coated catalyst carrier by using impregnating liquid contg. soluble salts of Pd and Ce and hydroxycarboxylic acid such as glycolic acid and malic acid. Thence, after drying, this is heat-treated at 500-900 deg.C, whereby the catalyst deposited with Pd- Ce is produced. This catalyst has the superior purification performance in rendering three kinds of harmful materials CO, HC, NOx contained in exhaust gases of internal combustion engines harmless, and causes less degradation in its activity even at elevated temp.
