Abstract

PURPOSE: Electrically-conductive white covering powder having improved electrical conductivity and stabilized quality, and no hygroscopicity at all, obtained by forming a covering layer consisting of tin oxide containing Sb on the surface of titanium oxide layer having a given specific surface area.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of tin chloride (SnCl4) and antimony chloride (SbCl2) in an alcohol, hydrochloric acid, etc. is added to a heated suspension obtained by dispersing titanium oxide (TiO2) powder having a specific surface area 1W10m2/g in warm water. Consequently, the desired electrically-conductive white covering powder wherein tin oxide (SnO2) having uniform solid solution of Sb is precipitated on the surface of TiO2 powder is obtained. The prepared powder contains 1W 15% Sb on the surface of TiO2 powder, and a covering layer consisting substantially of SiO2 with a thickness 0.001W<0.007μm is formed on the remaining part. The powder is suitable for forming an electrically-conductive layer of reproducing paper, e.g., electrostatic recording paper, etc.
