Abstract

PURPOSE: A novel crystalline silicate having high activity in the reaction synthesizing an aromatic compound from an alcohol, etc., having a given chemical composition in the dehydrated form, comprisising an organic S compound or its derivative as an organic compound.
CONSTITUTION: A reaction mixture comprising a silica source (e.g., solid silica powder), sources for a transition metal and/or Al (e.g., ferric sulfate, aluminum sulfate), water, and an organic S compound, is prepared. A thiol (e.g., methanethiol), sulfide (e.g., methyl sulfide), etc. are used as the organic S compound. The reaction mixture is treated at 80W300°C for 0.5W14 days under conditions to form crystalline silicate. In the treatment, the reaction mixture is continuously treated with stirring until the crystalline silicate is formed, the crystalline mixture is then cooled to room temperature, filtered, washed with water, and crystal is separated. The prepared crystal is dried ordinarily at ≥100°C to give crystalline silicate usable as a conversion catalyst or a carrier for catalyst.
