Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve visibility by coating an electrode face of a surface side substrate at least on a displaying element, in which a cholesteric liquid crystal having positive dielectric anisotropy and contg. a multicolor dye is sealed, with polyimide compounds. CONSTITUTION:An electrode 2A provided on a surface side substrate 1A is coated with polyimide compounds 3 and is carried out horizontal orientating treatment. On the other hand, an electrode 2B provided on a substrate 1B is carried out a vertical orientating treatment. Then, a cell is formed by disposing the substrate 1A and 1B parallelly via sealing agent 7 and a cholesteric liquid crystal, having positive dielectric anisotropy and contg. a multicolor dye, is sealed. Thereby, a high quality display device having an excellent contrast, visibility, quick response, and capable of driving with lower voltage, is obtained.
