Abstract

PURPOSE: A polyisocyanate with a prescribed or higher molecular weight is added to a melted polyurethane elastomer and the mixture is subjected to melt spinning to produce polyurethane elastic yarn of high recovery from the deformation at elevated temperature with industrial advantage.
CONSTITUTION: (A) A thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer, preferably consisting of a polyol of 500W6,000 number-average molecular weight such as polytetramethylene glycol, an organic diisocyanate of less than 500 molecular weight such as diphenylmethane diisocyanate and a chain extender of less than 500 molecular weight such a 1,4-butanediol, is melted and a polyisocyanate of more than 400 molecular weight, preferably a reaction product having blocked NCO terminals from a polyether of 300W2,500 molecular weight and diphenylmethane diisocyanate, is added to the above melted elastomer, preferably by 3W30wt%. Then, they are melt-spun to produce the objective elastic yarn.
