Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a carbide dispersion type composite thin strip-like material with superior mechanical characteristics, toughness and flexibility by melting carbide added prescribed metallic powder as starting material and cooling the melt very rapidly.
CONSTITUTION: Starting material 1 prepared by adding ≥1 kind among finely divided WC, SiC and TiC to ≥1 kind among Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, Cu and Zn is melted by heating with a heater 2. This melt is spouted from a nozzle 3 under pressure of a gas and passed through the space between a pair of cooling rolls 4 rotating at high speed to form a thin strip 5 by very rapid cooling. A centrifugal rapid cooling method, a single roll method or other method may be applied in placed of the twin roll method. By this method a carbide dispersion type composite thin strip-like material with superior wear resistance and flexibility is obtd.
