Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate the machining of injection port portion and the inside of cavity portion of an insert and protect the insert from machining flaws and cracking, by separately making the insert's cavity portion and injection port portion of ceramic. CONSTITUTION:A swirl chamber insert 1 comprises a cavity portion 3 with an inside surface of longitudinal section shaped almost as an inverted truncated cone and an injection port portion 5 made separately from the cavity portion 3 and having an obliquely-opened injection port 4. The cavity portion 3 and the injection port portion 5 are made of ceramic, respectively. A heated ring 6 is shrinkage-fitted on the peripheral surfaces of the cavity portion 3 and the injection port portion 5 so that these portions 3, 5 integrally constitute the insert 1. The shrinkage fit always applies compressive stress to the injection port portion 5 and the cavity portion 3 so that the metal ring 6 holds the portions 3, 5 by compressive stress within an appropriate range even if a thermal expansion difference is made between the ceramic and the metal becuase of the change in ambient temperature.
