Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare an acetal useful as an organic solvent, etc., with simple operation, in high yield and selectivity, by the vapor-phase catalytic reaction of an olefin with an alcohol and a nitrous acid ester using a platinum-group metal as a catalyst and copper chloride as a cocatalyst.
CONSTITUTION: An olefin, an alcohol and a nitrous acid ester are diluted with an inert gas such as N2, and made to react with each other in the presence of a platinum-group metal or its salt and copper chloride (e.g. PdCl2-CuCl2-Al2O3) at 50W200°C under atmospheric pressure W20kg/cm2G at a space velocity (SV) of 500W5,000hr-1, to obtain an acetal. The platinum-group metal or its salt is carried together with the copper chloride on a carrier such as silica gel, silica alumina, etc. The atomic ratio of copper of the copper chloride to the platinum- group metal is 0.5W5.
USE: Raw material for the synthesis of perfumery and pesticide, raw material for the preparation of vinyl ether which is a raw material of water-soluble polymers, etc.
