Abstract

PURPOSE:To control the cooling capacity in a wide range when hot rolled steel sheets are cooled in an on-line state in such a way that they are cooled from the lower surface by means of the spray cooling and from the upper surface by lamina cooling, by fixing locations of numerous cooling headers of each cooling line and by selecting headers to be used. CONSTITUTION:A hot-rolled steel sheet 1 is cooled by cooling equipment composed of four banks h1-h4, each of which is provided with numerous lamina headers 4 or spray headers 3 installed at regular intervals, while the steel sheet 1 is moved in the direction shown with the arrow. Any desired cooling rates can be achieved by changing numbers of the bank of header and the header to be used. Locations of both type headers 3 and 4 are not changed against the passing direction of the steel sheet 1. That is to say, a desired cooling rate can be obtained by using all headers of the bank h1, partial headers of banks h1 and h2, partial headers of banks h1, h2, and h3, or a few headers of all banks h1- h4, without changing locations of the headers.
