Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a lightweight Mg-Li alloy with a high Young's modulus and high rigidity as a material for an acoustic vibrating plate, etc. by adding metallic Li to molten Mg, casting and solidifying the molten alloy, remelting the resulting ingot in an inert atmosphere, and forming an ingot.
CONSTITUTION: Metallic Li is added to Mg melted in the air, and the molten Mg-Li alloy is cast and solidified once. After removing oxide, flux, etc. on the surface of the resulting ingot, the ingot is remelted in an inert atmosphere of gaseous Ar or the like and solidified at ≥1°C/sec solidifying rate to form an ingot. This ingot is soaked at 450W550°C and preliminarily forged at 250W450°C. By this method an Mg-Li alloy with superior performance as a material for an acoustic vibrating plate can be manufactured.
