Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the purification rate of a controllable ternary catalyst for air-fiel ratio feed back as well as to improve the idling stability, by controlling engine cylinders in such a way that there are no difference in the air-fuel ratio among them.
CONSTITUTION: An inhaling tube 3 is provided with both an inhaled air volume sensor 11 of a potentiometer type, which detects the volume of air inhaled into an engine 1, and an inhaled air temperature sensor 12 of a thermistor type, which detects the temperature of the inhaled air. The engin 1 is provided with a water temperature sensor 13, of a thermistor type which detects the cooling water temperature, while an exhaust manifold 6 is equipped with an air-fuel ratio sensor 14, which detects the air-fuel ratio from the oxygen density in exhaust gas. In order to discriminate a cylinder from the others, a cylinder discrminating censor 16 outputs a pulse signal at the time of ignition in a cylinder No.1 or a basic cylinder. A control circuit 20 calculates the volume of injected fuel based on signals detected by each sensor, 11W16, and controls the open-valve period for five fuel injection valves each.
