Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the adhesion of an electron emission substance to an electrode constituent by using as the electron emission substance a substance containing yttrium oxide and lanthanum oxide. CONSTITUTION:A mixture of yttrium oxide and lanthanum oxide is used as an electron emission substance 11, and an electrode is constituted by coating and fixing said mixture onto an electrode constituent. In the electron emission substance 11 which consists of the mixture of yttrium oxide and lanthanum oxide, yttrium oxide and lanthanum oxide form a solid solution or complex compound, thus reducing its melting point. Accordingly, the mixture is compatible with the electrode constituent, and their adhesion is improved, so exfoliation and falling off of the electron emission substance in a discharge lamp can be eliminated.
