Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled composition, having improved resistance to high temperature and slag and rapid development of strength after injection, and prepared by incorporating a refractory raw material containing a specific amount of a specified powdery pitch with a specific amount of a binder containing a specified petroleum heavy oil, an aromatic petroleum resin, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A composition obtained by incorporating (A) 100pts.wt. a refractory raw material, e.g. coke, with (B) 1W25pts.wt. powdery pitch having a softening point of 90W300°C, a fixed carbon of 40% or more and a content insoluble in quinoline of 10W80% as a carbon binding assistant, and then (C) 15W40pts.wt. binder containing 100pts.wt. mixture of 65W95wt% petroleum heavy oil with a Conradson carbon residue ≥25% with 40W5wt% aromatic petroleum resin, preferably of softening point 50W160°C and molecular weight 500W2,000 and preferably 3W15pts.wt. thermosetting resin, preferably resol type phenolic resin of molecular weight 100W500. The binder preferably has a viscosity of 300W3,000cp at 50°C.
USE: A refractory material for choking an iron notch of a blast furnace.
