Abstract

PURPOSE:To form the Al diffused layer with excellent heat resistance, corrosion resistance, ageing resistance, ductility and bending property by a method wherein a coating agent consisting of an Al type diffusion base agent, a sticking agent and an alkaline water soluble rust inhibitor is coated on a surface of the steel material to be rolled and, thereafter, said steel material is heated and subjected to hot rolling. CONSTITUTION:To 50-100pts.wt. of the powdery diffusion base agent with a particle size of 100-500 meshes comprising an Al powder or one obtained by adding at least one of Fe, Cr or Zn to the Al powder, the sticking agent such as a polyacrylic amide is added in an amount of 0.1-50pts.wt. as a solid component to form a slurry and 0.01-1% of the alkaline water soluble rust inhibitor such as a hydroxide or a carbonate of Na or K is added to and mixed in said slurry. The resulting coating agent is coated on a surface of the steel material in a ratio of 0.1- 5kg/m<2> as a solid component. After said coating agent is dried at 50-250 deg.C, said coated steel material is heated to 700-1,350 deg.C and subjected to hot rolling or, moreover, cold rolling. Thereby, the diffused layer comprising Al, Fe-Al, Al-Cr or Al-Zn is formed.
