Abstract

PURPOSE:To raise the heating and cooling efficiencies of a heat treatment furnace by using a CO2-based CO2+H2 mixed gas as the atmospheric gas at a heat treatment furnace for a metal material. CONSTITUTION:In the heat treatment of iron steel, non-ferrous metal materials, etc., in a heat treatment furnace, a mixed gas consisting of CO2>90% and the remnant H2 is used as an atmospheric gas. Because the mixed gas has a heat capacity 1.41 times higher than and a heat conductivity 1.34 times higher than the conventional atmospheric gases at 500 deg.C, the heat treatment furnace of even shorter length can attain heating and cooling effects similar to those of the conventional ones. Thus, the heat treatment furnace can be miniaturized and also the conservation of energy can be realized.
