Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the troubles such as clogging and damage of a grate during the combustion of waste tires, by making the inner diameter of the lowest part of the tire-combustion chamber slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the tire to be burnt, thereby enabling the use of a grateless combustion chamber.
CONSTITUTION: The inner diameter of the combustion chamber 1 is larger than the outer diameter of the tire to be burnt at the upper part of the chamber, and slightly smaller at the lowest part. The use of a grate is unnecessary in the above chamber. Compressed air or oxygen is introduced into the chamber through an air inlet 6 at the lower part of the combustion chamber 1 so as to keep the positive pressure in the chamber. The combustion chamber 1 is divided into a lower oxidation zone (B) for the partial combustion of the tire, and an upper reduction zone (A) for reducing the combustion gas produced in the oxidation zone and for decomposing the tire with heat generated in the oxidation zone B. The combustible gas is extracted through the gas outlet 9 of the reduction zone (A).
