Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible continuous casting of an ingot corresponding to rimmed steel by performing oxygen blowing in such a manner as to keep blowing-out carbon at less than predetermined amount and adding Al after refining under stirring thereby regulating O, Al, and Si contents. CONSTITUTION:Steel bath is put into such a converter into which gas can be introduced from below the bath surface and oxygen blowing is performed so that blowing-out carbon is kept at >=0.05%. At a proper time during oxygen blowing and after the oxygen blowing, an inert gas is introduced from below the steel bath surface, whereby refining under stirring is accomplished. After the refining under stirring, the molten steel is tapped from the converter into a ladle while the inclusion of the converter slag is being suppressed. During and/or after the tapping, Al is added and deoxidation is performed, whereby free oxygen is regulated to <=70ppm, total Al to <=0.020%, and Si to an unavoidable content. Thereby, an ingot which does not evolve CO and having no defects such as pinholes is stably and continuously cast.
