Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve detection precision and to widen a detection region by providing a means of detecting optically the existence of sprocket holes at least two points on the transport path of a continuous form having sprocket holes at prescribed intervals and then by detecting the feed state of the form by ANDing their outputs.
CONSTITUTION: A feeding device for a continuous form equipped with sprocket wheels and rollers is provided with detectors 7 and 7', consisting of light emitting devices 5 and 5' and photodetectors 6 and 6', with shifts (γ) from center lines 8 and 8' of sprocket holes 4 and 4' in the form feed direction to the center. As form 2 moves slantingly as shown by the arrow (to left), the output signal of detector 6' decreases and that of detector 6 increases. As form 2 moves in the opposite direction, the output signals of detectors 6 and 6' increase and decrease respectively. Those output signals are OR-ed to obtain a sprocket detection signal, so that sprocket positions can be detected with accuracy. Thus, while the detection precision is improved, the detection region is widened and the device can be manufactured at low cost.
