Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain easily the titled compd. by a method wherein a cooled org. polyisocyanate is added to a cooled mixt. consisting of at least one compd. contg. at least two active hydrogen atoms and a urethanation catalyst and, it necessary, a surfactant to obtain a mixed liquid, an inert gas is uniformly dispersed in the mixed liquid to form froth, and the froth is cured by heating.
CONSTITUTION: A mixt. consisting of at least one compd. contg. at least two active hydrogen atoms (e.g. ethylene glycol) and a urethanation catalyst (e.g. triethylamine or tin acetate) and, if necessary, a surfactant (e.g. an organosilicon surfactant), is cooled. To this cooled mixt. is added a cooled org. polyisocyanate (e.g. the 80/20 mixt. of 2,4- and 2,6-tolylene diisocyanate) to form a mixt. which does not contain water. Air is introduced into the mixt, while cooling and mechanically stirring the mixt, to form froth which is structurally stable. Then the froth is cured by heating to produce a polyurethane foam.
