Abstract

PURPOSE:To inhibit the decrease in the available amount of the active material, and increase the battery capacity by adding a binding agent or the like and an oxygen- producing agent to the active material to make a paste, before the paste is applied to a core material and is subjected to a heat treatment. CONSTITUTION:First of all, an active material made of manganess dioxide or the like is added with a conductive material and a binding agent to make a mixture. The mixture is added with an oxygen-producing agent such as silver oxide, which produces oxygen through thermal decomposition at around the decomposition temperatures of the binding agent as well as the below mentioned viscous agent, to make another mixture. Next, this mixture is made into a paste by the use of an aqueous solution of a viscous agent such as a polyvinyl alcohol, before the paste is applied to an electrode-plate core-material and is dried. Eventually, the dried paste undergoes a heat treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere at the decomposition temperature (220 deg.C) of the viscous agent. At the end, the paste undergoes a heat treatment in either vacuum or an inactive atmosphere at the melting point of the binding agent (for example, at around 300 deg.C for a copolymer resin of ethylene tetrafluoride and propylene hexafluoride), thus an electrode plate being formed. Chromium oxide may be used as the former oxygen-producing agent.
