Abstract

PURPOSE:To make possible the displaying at less than supply voltage for one dry cell by providing an oscillation circuit which oscillates according to battery capacities, a display element driving circuit which is driven by the output of the oscillation circuit, a specific display element and an erasing circuit thereof. CONSTITUTION:When the voltage of a battery 11 drops down to, for example, <=1.2V, a multivibrator 17 is oscillated by a detecting transistor 16. This output is applied to the driving transistor array 18 of a display element 23. When at this time the signal 26 which remains high level during the coloring time TW is applied, transistors 20, 21 conduct and the current flows from the pole (a) in the display to a counter electrode (b), thereby causing an electrochromic display element (ECD) 23 to color. While there is no signal 26, the ECD 23 assumes an electrically isolated state and the coloring is maintained by its memory effect. If at this time the dry cell is exchanged, the circuit 17 does not operate and its output goes 0. The operator then presses an erasing button 25 to operate a monostable multi 24 which is turn causes transistors 19, 22 to conduct, thereby erasing the display of the ECD23.
