Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare L-glutamic acid, by culturing bacteria resistant to phenylalanine-analog and belonging to Escherichia genus in a liquid medium under aerobic conditions, thereby accumulating a large amount of L-glutamic acid in the medium.
CONSTITUTION: Bacteria belonging to Escherichia genus and resistant to phenylalanine-analog (e.g. o-, m-, or p-aminophenylalanine), e.g. Escherichia coli AJ11381 (FERM-P No.5055), are cultured aerobically in a conventional liquid medium containing a carbon source, a nitrogen source, inorganic salts, and if necessary, organic minor nutrients. The culturing is carried out in a conventional manner, at pH5W9 and 20W45°C for 20W96hr under aerobic conditions. The L-glutamic acid accumulated in the medium is separated by conventional means.
