Abstract

PURPOSE: A curable resin composition suitable for a rust preventive or flame resistance coating compound, electrical insulating varnish, molding resin, etc., having improved heat resistance, chemical resistance, moisture resistance, mechanical strength, etc., comprising polyparabanic acid, a cyanic ester resin composition.
CONSTITUTION: Polyparabanic acid shown by the formula I (R is aromatic group) is mixed with a polyfunctional cyanic ester, e.g., 1,3-dicyanatobenzene, etc., a prepolymer obtained by polymerizing it in the presence of a catalyst, e.g., a mineral acid, etc., or a prepolymer having an average molecular weight 400W6,000 prepared by reacting the cyanic ester with an amine, e.g., p-phenylenediamine, etc. And, if necessary, any one of a polyfunctional maleimide obtained by reacting a maleic anhydride with an amine having not more than five amino groups, an epoxy resin obtained by reacting a novolak type phenolic resin of polyol with an epihalohydrin, and polyimide resin shown by the formula II (n is 1W5) is added to the polyfunctional cyanic ester or the prepolymer and a preliminary reaction is carried out to give the desired curable resin composition.
