Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a core drill in which escape grooves have been made so that the machinability of its cutting edges which end up in boring while cutting an annular groove is improved and the removal of chips is made more smooth. CONSTITUTION:The core drill 10 has cutting edges each provided with an inner edge 42, a crossed edge 36, oblique edge 38 and an outer edge 40 in order from the inside to the outside. Each cutting edge has a positive rake angle to all the surfaces of an annular groove 16 being out, which is useful for the removal of chips. The core drill 10 is secured to an arbor 12 and rotated by an electric motor to cut the annular hole 16 in an iron plate 14, and finally the core 18 is removed by the elastic force of a spring 22 through a pin 20 to make a hole in the iron plate.
