Abstract

PURPOSE: To separate water from a sludge by reaction heat without necessity of a special desiccator or fuel, by mixing the sludge with quick lime or conc. sulfuric acid and quick lime.
CONSTITUTION: A sludge containing a substantial amount of water, after carried through a dehydrator, is charged through a conduit 1 to a stirrer 3, while a measured amount of conc. sulfuric acid is added to the sludge from a tank 2. The sludge added and mixed with conc. sulfuric acid is then carried to another stirrer 4 for quick lime addition. In the stirrer 4, a measured amount of quick lime is added to the sludge and the mixture is blended for a certain time period. The sludge is desiccated by the reaction heat of the sulfuric acid and quick lime. The desiccated sludge is discharged through an outlet 6, while water is discharged through ducts 7 and 8.
