Abstract
PURPOSE:To detect precisely the end of service life of a battery with a nonaqueous electrolyte, by making the effective electric capacity of the positive electrode greater than that of the negative electrode. CONSTITUTION:The effective electric capacity of a positive electrode is made larger than that of a negative electrode. Here, the term ''effective electric capacity'' means a value obtained by multiplying the theoretical electric capacity of an active material by a discharge utilization ratio. As the active material for the positive electrode, manganese dioxide, copper oxide, iron sulfide or fluorinated carbon may be used. On the other hand, lithium, sodium, magnesium or the like may be used as a negative electrode. As an electrolyte, lithium perchlorate or lithium borofluoride may be dissolved in one or more solvents selected from 1,2-dimethoxyethane, propylene carbonate, tetrahydrofuran and gamma-butyrolactone etc. By constituting a battery as mentioned above, the capacity of the battery is restricted at the negative electrode and the discharge voltage drops abruptly at the end of its service life. The end of the battery life can thus be clearly detected.
