Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the cooling in the sealed face of a mechanical seal by providing a cylindrical guide to hold a stator ring to be axially movable and extending this cylindrical guide to the sealed face for forming a passage of refrigerant between the guide and the periphery of the stator ring.
CONSTITUTION: Simultaneously with the start of the revolution of a shaft 33, refrigerant is introduced from an inlet 41 into a passage 37. At this stage, since the fluid in a machine 42 makes a laminar flow between the inside of a casing main body 22 and a cylindrical guide 38, the refrigerant introduced into the passage 37 is conducted forward without being influenced by the fluid in the machine 42. Meanwhile, since the front edge of the cylindrical guide 38 is extended to face to a sealed face 36, the refrigerant can be easily and for sure brought to the sealed face 36 for cooling the sealed face 36 which generates frictional heat by the revolution of the shaft 33.
