Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:Titled simple glucan wherein two to three β-1,6-bonded glucose molecules are bonded to the main chain by β-1,6-bond per two β-1,3-glucoxide- bonded glucose units constituting the main chain.
USE: Antitumor agent, prophilactic against infectious diseases such as hepatitis and pneumonia, caused by viral or bacterial infection resulting from the decline of physical stamina or immunity strength.
PREPARATION: Cultured mycelia of Choray Basidiomycetes [FERM-P5237(GU- 10)] are extracted with hot water. The extract is purified and concentrated by filtration, dialysis, etc., and mixed with a precipitant such as ethanol thereby to yield crude polysaccharide. Then, to the crude polysaccharide is added a quat. ammonium salt to precipitate impurities. To the resulting supernatant liquid is added a precipitant to precipitate purified polysaccharide. Next, this purified polysaccharide is dissolved in water and fractionated, for example, by gel filtration to yield simple glucan having the structure represented by the formula.
