Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a heat resistant cast steel hard to carburize by hydrocarbon and free from a lowering in the creep strength and ductility due to carburizing by increasing the C and Cr contents of a 25Cr-35Ni heat resistant cast steel within specified ranges.
CONSTITUTION: This cast steel contains 0.7W0.9% C, 0.5W2.5% Si, 0.5W2.0% Mn, 32W37% Ni and 28W34% Cr. By increasing the C and Cr contents of a 25Cr- 35Ni heat resistant steel, the amount of Cr carbide deposited is increased to prevent carburizing by hydrocarbon, etc. from the outside. When this steel is carburized, a change in the physical property values and strength between the carburized and noncarburized parts is reduced, and internal stress due to a difference in the thermal expansion coefficient between the parts is not produced to prevent carburizing rupture. This steel is very useful as a material for parts for equipment for manufacturing ammonia, methanol, ethylene, etc., e.g., a tube for heating hydrocarbon to high temp. and a reaction tube for catalytically or thermally decomposing hydrocarbon.
