Abstract

PURPOSE: The titled binder that is composed of a copolymer containing a specific amide and an amine as structure units, thus having high ability of dispersing magnetic material powders and giving wearing resistance to the formed magnetic layers and long pot life to the magnetic coating.
CONSTITUTION: At least one selected from N-alkoxymethylacrylamides and N- alkoxymethylmethacrylamides by 0.1W50wt% as an improver in the wearing and heat resistance of magnetic layers, preferably N-butoxymethylacrylamide, and an amino compound of the formula (R1 is H, methyl; R2 is methyl, ethyl) such as N,N-dimethyl-aminoethyl arcylate by 0.01W50wt% are combined to give a copolymer where the total content of these components is less than 90wt% in the structural units, preferably a terpolymer containing acrylate or methacrylate esters. The resultant copolymer is dissolved in a solvent and combined with a magnetic material powder to form a magnetic coating.
