Abstract

PURPOSE: To effectively prevent the scale of a metal surface in contact with water by making combination use of styrene sulfonic acid, maleic anhydride, etc. and acrylic acid or methacrylic acid as a copolymer.
CONSTITUTION: In order to prevent the adhesion of scale on the metal surfaces in contact with water, such as heat transfer surfaces, piping, and the like of a boiler etc., to acrylic acid or methacrylic acid or their water soluble salt, a copolymer of two or more kinds selected from styrene sulfonic acid, 2-acrylamide-2-methyl propyl sulfonic acid, maleic anhydride or their water-soluble salts are added. If chemicals are used in combination in this way, the scale may be considerably prevented.
