Abstract

PURPOSE:To shorten process as well as greatly reduce cost of manufacture by using a homopolymer as a gelling agent, e.g., polyacrylic acid, etc., in graft polymerization without completely separating the homopolymer. CONSTITUTION:The separator for cell is composed of a polyolefine membrane obtained from the graft polymerization of an acrylic acid or methacrylic acid monomer such as acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, or metal salts of these, leaving by- product homopolymer, e.g., polyacrylic acid, etc., incompletely separated in order to make the homopolymer function as a gelling agent. Thus, the manufacturing cost can be greatly reduced without the needs for the separating operation of the homopolymer and the manufacturing process can also be shortened because of the inclusion of the gelling agent in the membrane.
