Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve performance of a direct transmission, by bringing two gears into mesh with each other after synchronizing the speed of rotation of a change speed gear on an input shaft with that of a change speed gear on an output shaft by use of information obtained from the input shaft, output shaft and a desired gear position. CONSTITUTION:When a shift lever (not shown) is moved to a second-speed position after uncoupling of a main clutch 14 at the time when a vehicle is running at a first forward speed, a control circuit 29 gives an electric signal for making the circumferential speed of a gear 6 on a subsidiary shaft 87 equal to that of a gear 10 on an intermediate shaft 13 to a brake 17 on a brake shaft 18 disposed in a synchronizing mechansim 16 and braeks the intermediate shaft 13 interconnected to an input shaft 4 in response to a second-speed signal inputted from a detector (not shown). When the circumferential speed of gear 6 becomes equal to that of gear 10, gear 6 is shifted by a shift instructing signal given from control circuit 29 and brought into mesh with gear 10 smoothly. Then, main clutch 14 is coupled for transmitting rotation of engine 15 from input shaft 4 to output shafr 21 via an intermediate shaft 13 through meshing of the gears 10 and 6.
