CONSTITUTION: When gases are allowed to flow through passages 13 and 14 opposite directions, the gases exchange heat with each other through side walls 19 and 20 of grooves 2aW2d and ones of the portions connecting the grooves 2aW2d to each other with which adjacent grooves 2aW2d are not in contact. Because the width l1 of each of the grooves 2aW2d is smaller than the groove interval l2, the heat exchange area is increased, and therefore the effectiveness is improved. Moreover, each bottom of the grooves 2aW2d is contacted with the portion between the grooves of the adjacent sheet by the L portion where all the grooves are parallel to each other. Therefore, the side walls 19 and 20 are allowed to function as spacers to increase strength. Thus, a firm counterflow-type heat exchanger having improved effectiveness can be obtained.
