Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a soil disinfectant for agricultural and horticultural use, effective to control soil blights such as damping-off and clubroot of vegetables and black spot of potato with safe and simple means and enabling the repeated cultivation of the same crop, by the use of diphenylacetylene as an effective component.
CONSTITUTION: A soil disinfectant for agricultural and horticultural use containing diphenylacetylene as an effective component. Diphenylacetylene can be prepared by brominating trans-stilbene followed by alkali fusion of the product. The effective component is used as a mixture with an inorganic or organic solid carrier powder (e.g. diatomaceous earth, china clay, etc.). It may also be used by dissolving or dispersing in various liquid carrier (e.g. water, acetone, etc.). Addition of an adjuvant (e.g. surface active agent) is effective for the increase in the effectivity. The agent may be mixed with other chemicals such as insecticide, herbicide, fertilizer, etc. or may be used as a mixed pesticide.
