Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve charging efficiency, by placing the front edge of a peripheral intake port slightly away from the front end of a rotor recess toward the trailing side in such attitude of a rotor that an apex seal is about to reach the rear edge of the peripheral intake port.
CONSTITUTION: Right before the apex seal 3 of a rotor 4 reaches the rear edge 8b of the peripheral intake port 8 of a rotary piston engine 1, the front edge 8a of the peripheral intake port 8 is located slightly away from the leading end 11a of a rotor recess 11 toward the trailing side. As a result, a mixture is supplied through the intake port 8 into a preceding and a succeeding working chambers 5 without intermission, differently from a conventional case that the front edge of an intake port is shaped as shown by a dotted line. The charging efficiency of the mixture is improved by the combination of said supply with inertial supercharging in an intake passage.
