Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the efficiency of the incinerator for incinerating substances like sludge and to lower its fuel consumption, by controlling each of the means for controlling feed of materials to be incinerated, air and fuel while keeping the balance between the quantity of heat possessed by the incinerator and the feed rate of the materials to be incinerated. CONSTITUTION:In the sludge incinerating apparatus shown in the drawing, dehydrated sludge supplied from a dehydrated sludge storing hopper 15 is carried at a constant rate to the incinerator 1 by means of a conveyor 14 and the sludge is burnt in the incinerator 1. Here, in a digital control unit 24, there is provided a process signal input means 19 to which are given outputs of a sensor 3 for detecting the temperature in the furnace, a sensor 6 for detecting the fuel flow rate, a sensor 10 for detecting the airflow rate and a sensor 16 for detecting the weight of materials to be incinerated. This control unit 24 detects the quantity of heat possessed by incinerator 1 from the above input signals to the same and is designed to give an output signal from a process signal output means 20 for making the balance between said quantity of heat and the amount of materials to be incinerated and thereby controlling the operation of a fan 12, an air control valve 11, a fuel control valve 7, and a power drivng means 25 for a weighting conveyor 13 and the supply conveyor 14.
