Abstract

PURPOSE:To food composition for hepatic insufficiency effective in treating a patient with hepatic encephalopathy or relieving the conditions of the patient, containing valine, leucine and isoleucine in high concentrations without methionine, phenylalanine and tyrosine. CONSTITUTION:100g of a food composition for hepatic insufficiency contains 1,000-2,000mg valine, 1,300-2,500mg leucine and 800-1,500mg isoleucine. The composition may further contain other amino acid, e.g. tryptophan, cystine or threonine, as a metabolic nutrient source in addition to the essential components described above. However, methionine, phenylalanine and tyrosine should not be contained in the composition. Preferably, the composition is used as a solid food so as to be useful for oral intake.
