Abstract
PURPOSE:To permit an ultraviolet-ray monitor to be readily used for medical treatment or anti-sunburn employing a photochromic material whose optical absorption spectrum changes reversibly when ultraviolet rays are applied, in order to display the ultraviolet ray intensity analogously. CONSTITUTION:Printed on a base board 1 of paper or the like is a photochromic material 2 obtained by mixing an organic matter such as spiropyran which absorbs ultraviolet rays and has absorbers strong in the visible ray region as well as colors with a high molecular material (polymethyl methacrylate or the like). On the material 2, ultraviolet ray absorbing film 3 is provided, with its thickness varied between regions I-IV so as to control the incident ultraviolet ray intensity. Then the base board 1, the material 2 and the film 3 are coated with a protection film 4 of transparent plastic. Thus, the ultraviolet ray intensity is known by the regions I-IV where the material 2 develops a color. The material 2 develops a color by irradiating ultraviolet rays for one to two minutes, and the color fades away by heating or blocking the ultraviolet rays for approximately 20min. Therefore it can be used repeatedly. The thickness of the material 3 can be made equal on the regions I-IV and the concn. of the color developing agent can be varied.
