Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize the time required for starting of the internal combustion engine which uses kerosene or light oil having little amount of components of low boiling point as a main fuel by inserting a starter plunger within a plunger chamber provided in a starting intake passage in such a manner that the plunger can advance and retreat freely.
CONSTITUTION: Prior to the starting of an engine body 1, when the engine temperature is below a predetermined level (for example, 20°C), a thermosensitive valve 50 is opened. If a crank is connected in this state, a diaphragm type starting fuel pump 70 is driven by the pulsating pressure in a crank room, so that the starting fuel within a tank 71 is discharged through a passage 39 into a starting intake passage 36 at upstream of the starting fule pump 70. If the starter plunger 40 is drawn out in this state, the starting intake air flows through the starting intake passages 35 and 36 so that it is mixed with the starting fuel. The mixture is then flowed into the downstream part of a throttle valve 21 of a main intake passage 20 together with the main fuel which is drawn in from a passage 38. Accordingly, the engine is improved to start much more smoothly.
