Abstract

PURPOSE:To suppress the potential rise of the thyristor rectifier by earthing the input circuit of the rectifier with an arrester put in at the neutral point of the circuit. CONSTITUTION:If any earthing trouble has occurred to the circuit, such a potential is generated between the circuit and the ground as to break down a thyristor rectifier since the earthing trouble is intermittently maintained by an arc whereever the contacting point of the circuit may be located and, if earthing trouble has occurred on AC side, through the turn-on and off of a thyristor also and, if resonance conditions are set up, resonance current is intermittently continued. To prevent this i.e. voltage rise, the arrester 7 earthing the input circuit of the thyristor rectifier 2 when the potential-to-ground of the input circuit has become higher than a fixed value thereof is placed at the neutral point of the circuit.
