CONSTITUTION: A 2,6-dihalo-4-tertiary butylphenol (A) is reacted with an aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g. benzene or toluene, in an amount of 1mol or more, preferably 3mol or more, based on 1mol of A, in the liquid phase at 0W150°C, preferably 20W100°C, in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, preferably aluminum or iron chloride, in an amount of 0.01W3mol, preferably 0.1W1.5mol based on 1mol of A, to give the aimed compound.
