Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for an intermediate of a medicine, etc., in high yield, under mild conditions, by the trans-alkylation of cheap 2,6-dihalo-4-tertiary butylphenol as a raw material with an aromatic hydrocarbon, in the presence of a catalyst.
CONSTITUTION: A 2,6-dihalo-4-tertiary butylphenol (A) is reacted with an aromatic hydrocarbon, e.g. benzene or toluene, in an amount of 1mol or more, preferably 3mol or more, based on 1mol of A, in the liquid phase at 0W150°C, preferably 20W100°C, in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, preferably aluminum or iron chloride, in an amount of 0.01W3mol, preferably 0.1W1.5mol based on 1mol of A, to give the aimed compound.
