Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the luminescence efficiency of a metal vapor discharge lamp from lowering, by disposing a luminous tube rotatably within an outer tube in such a manner that the axis of the luminous tube may be kept always vertical even when the angle of the outer tube axis is changed. CONSTITUTION:The second supporting frame line 5b, which is secured on a luminous tube 1 by holding plates 8, is retained a rotary pin 13 on the first supporting frame line 5a that is fixed on an outer tube 11 of a metal halide lamp by a spring 7, stem lead 6b and stem 9, and a weight 14 is mounted on one of the holding plates 8 of the luminous tube so as to keep the luminous tube 1 vertical. Even when the lamp is lighted with an inclination of a certain angle theta, the luminous tube 1 therefore may rotate about the rotary pin 13 to maintain its vertical position and its luminescence efficiency is maintained at the same value as that available when the lamp per se is lighted in a vertical position without causing any temperature change at the coldest portion of the luminous tube 1.
